Illegal Cable Operators: A Harmful Threat to the Honduran Economy

The Association for Fair Intellectual Property (APPI) of Honduras, a non-profit association that works to promote the protection and respect of intellectual property rights in the country, condemned the illegal retransmission of TV cable operators and called on the government to take action to stop it.

APPI said that the illegal retransmission of TV cable operators is a serious problem that is harming the Honduran economy. In a statement, APPI said that the illegal retransmission is depriving Honduran consumers of access to high-quality content and that the government should strengthen the intellectual property laws and increase the penalties for violators.

The illegal retransmission of TV cable operators is a complex problem. There are a number of factors that contribute to the problem, including the lack of enforcement of intellectual property laws and the high cost of cable television subscriptions in Honduras.

It is estimated that there are over 1,000 illegal cable operators operating in the country; illegal cable operators typically retransmit content from major international broadcasters, such as ESPN, CNN, and HBO without authorization of copyright holders that have the exclusive right to reproduce, distribute, and publicly perform their works.
