The Trademark Office of Paraguay has implemented a new trademark e-filing system for payments, filing of applications and trademark renewals as a result of the outspread of COVID-19 in the country.Although the Trademark Office has physically reopened after the government’s relaxation of the quarantine, the use of technological tools has been strengthened to improve attention to users as part of an electronic strategic plan in line with WIPO and PROSUR guidelines.
The Trademark Office had been working on making e-filing a reality in Paraguay for a long time since one of their goals was to achieve a paperless working environment. Called SPRINT –SFE, the system was finally presented on April through Resolution No. 124/2020, a direct answer to the challenges generated by the COVID-19 to the intellectual property system.
The tool is still being improved, looking in the nearby future to simplify the filing process and completely eliminate the need for filing in person and in paper.
