Indecopi granted 638 invention patents and 266 industrial design registrations in 2017
The Direction of Inventions and New Technologies (DIN) of the Peruvian Intellectual Property Office (Indecopi) granted 638 patents and 266 registrations of industrial designs during 2017, exceeding by 32 and 59 percent, respectively, the registrations granted in 2016. 143 of those registrations correspond to national inventors, 39 percent more than 2016, which shows a significant advance in the promotion of the patent system in the country.

To promote that patent system, during 2017 the DIN created the Industrial Property Electronic Gazette and promoted other patenting programs such as the National Invention Competition, Rapid Patent and University Patent.

The Electronic Gazette of Industrial Property has two main advantages: free publication of the applications for those who carry out procedures for obtaining trademarks or patents and reduction of processing times that, in the case of patents, implies a reduction of 30 business days.
