Among them, in 2018, for the first time in Peruvian history, at the direct request of Indecopi a domain registrar and web hosting company (GoDaddy Inc.) suspended the domains of websites that provided musical phonograms with commercial purposes without the authorization of the copyrights holders.
Also, last year Indecopi managed to decrease the use of unlicensed software according to the Software Management Study conducted by industry’s global leading advocate Business Software Alliance (BSA). In 2017 the use of unlicensed software reached 62% in Peru, confirming a downward trend: in 2011 it was 67%, in 2013 65% and in 2015 63%.
"This is a work that is constantly reinforced with training and education programs, awareness campaigns that aim to generate a culture of respect for copyrights, and smoother coordinations with public and private institutions”, Indecopi stated on an August 22, 2018, press release. The Office especially appreciated its copyright promotion campaigns oriented to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which led to 931 companies regularizing their softwares during 2017.
