The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) of Peru made a call to the two political parties that participate in the current electoral process in the country to respect copyright regulations in all their promotions, advertisements and communications.Indecopi recalled that the use of music, images, and audiovisual or artistic works, among others, in all type of platforms, need the obligation of prior, express and written authorization of their authors.
“If a candidate wants to change the lyrics of a musical work in order to include a message for the electoral campaign, it must have the prior, express and corresponding written authorization to make such modifications,” Indecopi stated in a press release.
The presidential election will be carried out on 6 June, 2021, to determine the President and the Vice President, between Pedro Castillo, of Peru Libre, and Keiko Fujimori, of Fuerza Popular.
