“This new achievement in the defense of Pisco AO is due to the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Peru in the Republic of India, in coordination with the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), aimed at preventing the improper use of this Peruvian denomination”, Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Peru’s government steadily carries out diplomatic and legal actions aimed at preventing producers and marketers from improperly using the Pisco AO, in response to a national strategy that looks to effectively protect Peru's national beverage abroad.
Pisco is a brandy made from selected grapes restricted as an AO in Chile and also in Peru, and therefore generating a long standing legal battle between both countries to protect the beverage internationally.
