Intellectual Property guide for Honduran creators

The knowledge that creative men and women have about intellectual property is essential for their success as they can take full advantage of the benefits of the creative economy. Therefore, the Inter-American Development Bank launched a guide on intellectual property for Honduran creative businessmen and women that contemplates the basic necessary elements that they should know to protect their products or services through ways such as copyright and trademarks.

The guide includes direct references to the official websites where information on the matter can be found and references to applicable laws. It presents some schemes in which intellectual property rights can be commercially exploited and elements to consider when marketing creative products or services.

The concept of the creative economy is closely linked with the knowledge economy, a key driver of endogenous growth through investment in human capital. Its definition builds on the interplay between human creativity, ideas, knowledge, technology and intellectual property. Creative economy is the group of activities through which ideas are transformed into cultural and creative goods and services whose value is or could be protected by intellectual property rights.

Lately, Honduras has emphasized the potential of the creative industries for growth and employment.
