Introduction of Nuclear Technology in Industry
By Pittaluga Abogados
The goal of this project is to integrate industrial radiation technology into production processes, thereby expanding both domestic and international markets, removing trade barriers, and strengthening existing market positions.
The initiative is divided into two phases. The first phase, conducted by the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), equipped with the necessary testing equipment, resulted in the development of regulations for irradiated foods and an assessment of potential regional demand for nuclear technology.
Industrial radiation applications are diverse, encompassing food preservation, pharmaceutical and cosmetic production, automotive manufacturing, and even healthcare interventions.
In the second phase, Texas A&M University, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) evaluated the findings and conducted a feasibility study for the construction of a radiation facility.
