IP Guides for SME Intermediaries, Adapted to the Uruguayan Context
By Pittaluga Abogados

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has made available two country-specific publications from its IP Toolkit for SME Intermediaries, adapted to the legal, regulatory, and business context of Uruguay. The guides were published as part of a broader capacity-building project developed in cooperation with the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) and its member countries.
The IP Toolkit for SME Intermediaries is designed for organizations such as chambers of commerce, business associations, incubators, accelerators, and innovation agencies that play a role in guiding innovative businesses to maximize their potential through intellectual property and integrate it into their overall business strategies.
The resources are tailored to national legal, regulatory, and business contexts, and may be reproduced, distributed, adapted, and translated for commercial purposes without explicit permission, provided WIPO is acknowledged as the source and any changes to the original content are indicated.
The publications adapted for Uruguay are titled En buena compañía ("In Good Company") and La clave para la propiedad intelectual ("The Key to Intellectual Property"). Both are available for download on WIPO's website under the SME Intermediaries Toolkit section, as well as through Uruguay's Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining (MIEM).
The toolkit currently covers 15 Latin American countries. Uruguay's entry includes two publications, the same number available for Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Paraguay. Countries such as Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, and Peru have up to six country-specific chapters covering additional topics including trademarks, copyright, patents, and industrial designs.
