IP law will protect geographical indications

EL SALVADOR Ministry of Economy is preparing an amendment to the Intellectual Property Law to protect Geographical Indications. The Law already includes a procedure for the registration of Apellations of Origin , but not for Geographical Indications.To prepare the draft, an opinion was requested to the Permanent Mission of El Salvador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). There is a commitment of all Central American with the European Union to amend their Laws if necessary to include Geographical Indications.
