2011 has been very positive for our firm and therefore for our clients.

Even though one of the great problems of last year was that the DNPI (National Directorate of Industrial Property) was extremely behind schedule with all its files, which was detrimental to all the parts involved, we have managed to diminish said damages through the application of different alternatives and solutions. One of these was to search and identify solutions through private agreements between parties.

Our legal department, which has a high degree of training and broad experience in the matter, had incessant activity in the Administrative Court, the hierarchical organ on administrative issues, obtaining favorable sentences and resolutions for the interests of our clients, including a leading high profile case in Uruguay.

We can also highlight the participation of our lawyers in various national and international conferences and seminars which will aid their development and continuous professional improvement.

In some of these conferences our lawyers were speakers, such is the case of Dr. Nicolás Orrico, in charge of the area of falsification and piracy of our firm, who spoke in the conference about the “analysis of the background regarding reports from 2009 up to date”.

In addition to this, our partner Martín Pittaluga, has also been very active in his role as Vice-president in the Uruguayan Association of Industrial Property Agents, with the objective of bridging the gap between the private and public sector on the matter, which will be beneficial for both parts and thus indirectly for the owners of the brands.
