Liane Lage, former Director of Patents, Computer Programs and Integrated Circuit Topographies at the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO), is now patent senior counsel at Dannemann Siemsen, a leading Latin American IP law firm.
After a long career at the BPTO, where she was responsible for important functions, culminating in the patent directorate, Liane Lage played a key role in implementing the program to reduce the patent backlog, with great success in solving the backlog in examinations. During her administration, the BPTO was able to grant over 100 thousand patents in a reasonable interval of time.
Liane Lage has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Mina Gerais Federal University; a master's degree and a PhD in Engineering (use of membrane processes) from Rio de Janeiro Federal University (UFRJ); a postgraduate degree in Intellectual Property (pharmaceutical patents) from the Celso Suckow da Fonseca Federal Centre for Technological Education (Cefet-RJ). She was also a Researcher on the Chemical Engineering Programme at the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Postgraduates and Research in Engineering (COPPE – UFRJ).
