Marketing, financial and promotional plan for the pupusa
The government of El Salvador presented a business plan for pupusa producers from the municipality of Olocuilta. "We are aware of the value that this product has for all micro and small enterprises, which through the production of the pupusa and its ingredients allow the support of thousands of families”, said the Minister of Economy, Luz Estrella Rodríguez.

In April 2018 the “Pupusa de Arroz de Olocuilta" became El Salvador’s first Geographical Indication (GI) after the Ministry of Economy awarded the sign to local producers from Olocuilta, located in the south central part of the country and home of this famous Salvadoran dish: a thick corn tortilla stuffed with a savory filling.

The business plan includes a marketing, financial and promotional strategy to commercialize the product both nationally and abroad, with an in-depth analysis of possible new markets. In spite of their low price, pupusa represents an important element in the economy of El Salvador and exports of frozen pupusas to the United States have increased annually.
