Mass destruction of counterfeited products

On April 12 the National Directorate of Intellectual Property (Dinapi) and the Public Ministry of Paraguay destroyed nearly 50 boxes of counterfeited products, worth USD 1,2 million in the informal market and twice that value in the formal market.

“At this operation we meet all the offices and authorities involved every day against counterfeiting, setting a clear example from the government that Paraguay will continue to fight together against counterfeiting”, said Héctor Balmaceda, general director of Observance at Dinapi.

Watches, glasses, computers, cell phones and other electronic products were part of the products destroyed in the seizure, on an operation that has been underway since 2016. “We carried out the necessary tests to correctly verify that all the products had a countefeited origin”, said Carmen Cattoni, agent of Dinapi’s Intellectual Property Unit.
