Professor at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering of the Autonomous University of Yucatan, six years ago Lechuga Andrade decided to initiate a research on the processes of desalination of sea water, due to its economic and ecological importance.
According to Excelsior newspaper, after several tests Lechuga Andrade invented a system that uses the filter developed based on reverse osmosis technology as a fundamental component that uses hollow fiber membrane modules arranged in a spiral manner around a central support pipe and distributed in concentric rings around the periphery of the rotating section to favor the formation of Dean vortices. His system requires up to 80% less investment in electrical energy compared to similar ones currently used in Europe and Asia.
