Mexico and India to collaborate in the pharmaceutical, medical, and technology sectors

Mexico lead in India a high-level official delegation that included health and education officials and business executives, and held various meetings.In a bilateral meeting, government officials agreed to boost trade and collaborate in the pharmaceutical, medical, and technology sectors.
India is seen as a world power in the research, development and manufacturing of vaccines and medicines with about 60 percent of generic drugs produced there. The Serum Institute of India alone produces more than 30 percent of the vaccines manufactured globally. Mexican authorities had talks for future collaboration agreements both with the Serum Institute and the Biological E. Limited, another major pharmaceutical company. Negotiations are underway to reach an agreement for the transfer of Indian technology for the development of basic vaccines in Mexico.
In a meeting with the Indian Science and Technology Minister, Jitendra Singh, the parties agreed to create an accelerator fund for scientific cooperation projects, particularly in biotechnology and aerospace. It was agreed to begin cooperating on the digitalization of medical information.
India and Mexico recently crossed the US$10 billion mark in bilateral trade despite the economic slowdowns caused due to the spread of COVID-19. Furthermore, India is the ninth largest trade partner of Mexico.
