More tourists than ever came to Uruguay!
With 3,328,450 tourists arriving to the country in 2016, Uruguay achieved a historic record of visitors that is almost equal to its population. The 2016 number represented an increase of 12.3% over the previous year, stated ministry of Tourism, Lilian Kechichian, during a press conference.

Most visitors came from neighbor countries like (2,140,000), Brazil (432,400), Paraguay (41,500) and Chile (54,000). Visitors from other nationalities, mostly European, totaled 347,800, a similar amount to the previous year.

Montevideo, capital city of Uruguay, continues to be the main destination for tourists (29% of them), followed by Atlantic coast resort Punta del Este. All visitors left in Uruguay USD 1.824 million during 2016.
