Moving closer to a National IP Policy

The National Institute of the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) of Peru has been working intensely on the implementation of a National Intellectual Property Policy which looks to strengthen the country's economic development.Indecopi's President, Julián Palacín Gutiérrez, announced that the goal is to present the policiy in October 2022, after a years long effort worked together with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the participation of 40 public, private and academic institutions that are linked to intellectual property areas.
“We have a clear vision about the future of the country. We believe that the National Intellectual Property Policy will give Peru the impetus it needs to achieve economic development," Palacín Gutiérrez stated.
Today, 35% of national inventors who apply for patents in Peru abandon their applications. Many of these inventors give up on their applications before their inventions get examined on the merits. The help of an IP policy will significantly improve the odds
