National Convention of Patents and Inventions
By Francisco Espinosa Bellido

In order to encourage use of the patent system, the Convention hosted in Lima two events from November 25 to November 28:
the Patents and Inventions Congress, with participating exhibitors from Spain, Chile and Colombia, and the XIII National Invention Contest.
This event postulated 270 projects in eight areas: agriculture and agribusiness, housing and sanitation, energy and transport, biotechnology and medicine, mining and metallurgy, environmental, telecommunications and electronics, and utility.
According to El Comercio newspaper, of all participants 109 sought to patent their creations, surpassing the protection requested in the 2013 Contest. Among the universities that applied in the contest and asked to patent their inventions was the National University of Engineering (UNI) with 20 patent applications.
The winners of first and second places received 6,000 and 3,500 dollars, will represent Peru at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva and will have their patents registered, among other prizes.
