New authorities for Guatemala's IP institutions
Luis Villegas is the new Director of the Registry of Intellectual Property of Guatemala, the Office responsible of IP matters in the country and dependent of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Villegas, a 37 year old lawyer and notary, was sworn in on his post on February 12, 2020. He perviously was General Director of the General Directorate of Transport and advisor to the Vice Ministry of Telecommunications and Transport.

Meanwhile, Rolando Paiz was named as the new Coordinator of PRONACOM, the governmental agency in charge of promoting the competitiveness of Guatemala's institutional and business environment, also dependent of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. A businessmen based in Guatemala City, Paiz has worked on several foreign investment projects and has now his first experience in public administration.
