New chapter to develop a honey collective mark in Bolivia
By PPO Abogados
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is carrying out a project that aims to empower entrepreneurs and SMEs in developing countries to use intellectual property to add value to their products and services.
Bolivia, one of the participating countries in the project, is looking to create a collective mark for the honey produced in the region of Chaco Chuquisaqueño through an umbrella association called ARACH (Asociación Regional de Apicultores del Chaco Chuquisaqueño).
Currently the project is in the third of six steps, where information events and workshops are held with the members of the association to agree on the main elements of their future collective mark. In this stage the regulations that will govern the use of the collective mark are drafted and the logo is designed.
Once this step is completed, the application for registration of the collective mark is prepared and filed with the relevant IP Office.
WIPO's Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP) commissioned the project after Bolivia submitted a proposal. The proposal was initially presented to the 23rd session of the Committee (May 2019), and it was approved by the 24th session (November 2019).
