New National contest of Intellectual Property Journalism is launched in Peru
By Francisco Espinosa Reboa, Francisco Espinosa Bellido

The prize in the different categories is an internship at the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO. Such categories are printed media, radio reports and TV reports, and should address any intellectual property topic such as trademarks, patents and copyright.
In order to be eligible the journalists must receive first training in IP matters that will be imparted for free by INDECOPI professionals nationwide.
The news about this contest and its requirements were informed by the president of INDECOPI’s Directive council, Mr. Hebert Tassano Velaochaga and the executive director of AmCham Perú, Aldo Defilippi, who mentioned that the purpose of this contest is to promote the specialization of the journalists on Intellectual property matters, and to form leaders of opinion on these matters, which will also contribute to the education of the general public.
This is a very good initiative to educate the common citizens on the basic and not so basic aspects of intellectual property, and hope that in the long run will benefit both the protection and the respect of IP rights in Peru.
