"We are an open market and have no limitations, therefore we welcome other markets”, said to La Prensa Rosendo Mayorga, vice president of the Superior Council of Private Enterprise (COSEP).
"There's a lot of products that could enter both countries free of tariffs or at low tariffs. Aftet this visit to Manangua, in a joint government-private effort we are now programming a Nicaraguan visit to La Habana to keep continuity of this relationship" added Bayardo Arce, Nicaragua´s presidential adviser for economic affairs.
Arce acknowledged that the government and the Cosep are looking to expand the country´s trading partners in a response to minimize effects of tax relief of United States products under the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR).
On 2015 a list of 32 US products were freed of tax entering Nicaragua. Arce said the fiscal impact of that measure "is short, but from 2016 the reliefs will be greater and therefore greater the impact”.
