Nicaragua capitalizes on market need of fine cocoa
By Guy José Bendaña-Guerrero & Asociados

Since this decade Nicaragua is capitalizing in such type of cocoa as the country has 1.9 million hectares of land suitable for fine cocoa production. Recognized for its fine aroma and flavor, Nicaraguan cocoa is of high quality and in demand internationally: the country is the top producer in Central America and looks to compete with export giants such as Brazil and Ecuador. Nicaragua exports about 7 million dollars each year in fine cocoa, according to data from the Association of Producers and Exporters of Nicaragua (APEN).
In September 2015, Nicaragua entered the list of countries producing fine cocoa or aroma cocoa of the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO), with a level of approval of 100 percent.
