Nicaragua press the foot on the pedal
A delegation from the official investment promotion agency of Nicaragua (PRONicaragua) participated in a trade event on July 25 in New York, United States, where it promoted investments for the footwear sector.

The Nicaraguan mission, led by presidential delegate for investments, Álvaro Baltodano, was part of the Footwear Sourcing Intelligence Summit, an event organized by the North American Footwear Distributors and Retailers Association (FDRA).
According to EFE news agency, among the benefits, advantages and opportunities offered by Nicaraguan officials were the competitive labor costs of the country, its proximity to the main markets of Latin America and access to more than 1,500 million consumers through various trade agreements with countries and trade blocks over the world.

Currently there are 1,650 shoe factories in the country, which yearly produce 10 million pairs of shoes and generate around USD 50 million in incomes. The main exported footwear products of Nicaragua are made of rubber, plastic, and natural and regenerated leather. In 2012, a study by the FDRA recognized Nicaragua as the "emerging star" of global footwear industry.
