The country currently has about 10,000 square kilometers under mining concessions and has available another 71,000 square kilometers for concession, according to the State Agency for Investment Promotion (ProNicaragua).
In 2015 the country produced 274,000 tons of gold and 586 tons of silver. "Nicaragua is the center of mining in Central America. This activity generates many jobs and boosts the economy," said Sergio Ríos, president of the Mining Chamber of Nicaragua (Caminic, for its acronym in Spanish), which together with ProNicaragua organized the two-day congress held in August at the city Managua.
