Nicaraguan brand named Global Rum Producer of the Year

"From 1890, near the base of the San Cristobal volcano in northwestern Nicaragua, the Pellas family began producing rum for workers on their estate to celebrate the end of the harvest. The political upheavals in Nicaragua of the late 1970s and early 1980s led the company to keep back a larger stock of rum and continue ageing them until better times returned. It is for this reason that Flor de Caña has, to this day, one of the largest reserves of old rum in the world", highlighted the latest edition of the IWSC 2017 Competition Report. "Since the 1990s the brand has grown, expanded its export markets and picked up ever-greater numbers of awards – nearly 200 of them – at international competitions, making it one of the most awarded rum brands in the world", it added.
Flor de Caña, Nicaragua’s #1 exported brand, is present in over 40 countries in five continents and is one of the fastest growing premium rum brands in the United States. With more than 125 years and 5 generations of family tradition, Flor de Caña is naturally aged without sugar, additives or artificial ingredients, enriched by an active volcano and distilled with 100% renewable energy. "This distinction, the highest within the global spirits industry, is the most powerful endorsement of Flor de Caña’s quality and excellence", stated the brand in its website.
