Nicaraguan Company Named Most Sustainable Rum Distillery

Nicaragua's Flor de Caña Rum distillery was chosen as The Ultimate Sustainable Rum Distillery by The Ultimate Awards, a competition that seeks to recognize companies leading the industry in terms of sustainable practices and committed to a greener future.
15 distilleries participated in the contest, each deserving of the award for their efforts to minimize the impact of their practices on the environment, minimizing the footprint that the process of distilling rum and other spirits leaves on the planet.
The contest was a “People’s Choice” in which rum lovers from around the world voted to choose the distillery that should be recognized as the most sustainable.
Flor de Caña was able to garner 2274 votes, a milestone in the history of The Ultimate Awards. The process lasted two weeks and ended this Monday, August 28th. The Ultimate Awards team was in charge of the final tally and totalization of the numbers, resulting in Flor de Caña distillery as the undisputed winner.
Flor de Caña's carbon neutral certification by Carbon Trust (UK) means the company offsets all carbon emissions during the entire lifecycle of its products, from field to market. On the other hand, the fair trade certification by Fair Trade USA ensures consumers the rum is produced sustainably and ethically in compliance with over 300 rigorous labor, social and environmental standards.
