Nike intensifies battle against online platform
By Ferraiuoli LLC
In February 2022, Nike filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of Southern New York alleging StockX was selling unlicensed images of Nike sneakers as non-fungible tokens (NFT). StockX is an online marketplace and clothing reseller, primarily of sneakers. In an amended complaint filed in May 2022, Nike now claims that StockX is selling counterfeited models of its shoes.
“Since December 2021 and continuing through the filing of this action, Nike has obtained from StockX four pairs of purportedly ‘authenticated’ Nike-branded shoes that Nike has verified are, in fact, counterfeit,” Nike attorneys wrote in the lawsuit.
Nike asked the court to prohibit StockX from selling shoes with a design the public associates with Nike.
