Organization begans filing copyrights to protect Guatemalan artisans designs

“The issue of design theft of creative works from Guatemala goes much farther than weavers. Guatemala artists, painters, leather and ceramics artists are also in need of copyright protection for their works”, states the organization, basing its claims on the fact that Guatemala is a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and a signatory to the Paris Convention, Berne Convention and Rome Convention.
Ethical Fashion Guatemala also argues that while the weavers are garnering the majority of the national attention with their campaign asking for more IP actions from the government, all the country artisans need the same protection.
