On November 9, 2023, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment of the United States, Jose W. Fernandez, met with Minister for Information and Communications Technology of Paraguay, Gustavo Villate, to discuss U.S.-Paraguay cybersecurity and digital cooperation.
Building on their close ties and partnership, the two delegations shared their concern over the threat posed by state and non-state actors in cyberspace. The two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation to prevent, disrupt, and respond to threats.
On digital issues, both countries recognized the importance of building a trusted, resilient, and secure digital ecosystem. This includes ensuring that information and communications technology companies are focused on protecting privacy, intellectual property rights, and human rights.
Both governments agreed to promote an open, interoperable, secure, and reliable Internet in order to enable people to safely and openly engage online, reliably receive critical services and information from their governments, exercise their human rights and fundamental freedoms, and drive inclusive economic growth. The U.S. government will work with Paraguay on ways to attain its digital infrastructure goals.
