Paulo Londra gets win in contract dispute

A judge ruled that Argentine trap artist Paulo Londra has no further recording obligations or future contractual grants to Big Ligas, a joint venture he helped co-found with Colombian producers Cristian Salazar and Daniel Oviedo.According to Billboard, in 2020 Salazar and Oviedo filed a lawsuit in a Miami-Dade County court against the 23 year old Londra accusing him of breach of contract since he stopped delivering new music notwithstanding his obligations under the agreement.
In a counter lawsuit filed on March 2020, Londra accused Salazar and Oviedo of fraud representation, arguing that the joint venture deal signed with them had been officially terminated by 2020 and was extended without his consent.
When Big Ligas was created in 2018, Londra signed a there year deal which stipulated he would record music exclusively for the joint venture and assign 100% of his master recordings and publishing copyright interest in exchange for percentage royalties of Big Ligas earnings for recordings and musical compositions. If Big Ligas entered an agreement for Londra with a major music label, the contract three-year term would be extended. During the course of the term, Big Ligas entered a licensing deal with Warner Music in 2019.
Judge William Thomas ruled that Big Ligas assertion “that they can unilaterally enter into recording agreements for Londra’s services” -such as the Warner licensing deal- “would give them discretion to extend the contract term in perpetuity and force Londra’s personal services to write songs and record music for Big Ligas against his will forever.”
