Peru Becomes Member of HealthAI’s Global Regulatory Network for Responsible AI in Health

Peru’s Ministry of Health signed a historic agreement with HealthAI – The Global Agency for Responsible AI in Health on January 15, 2026, formalizing its membership in the HealthAI Global Regulatory Network (GRN). This marks the first time a Spanish-speaking country has joined the international platform dedicated to collaborative regulation of artificial intelligence in health systems.

The agreement was signed in Lima by Deputy Minister of Public Health Dr. Leonardo Rojas on behalf of the Peruvian government and Dr. Ricardo Baptista Leite, CEO of HealthAI, during a ceremony that included representatives from regional health and digital governance bodies. Officials from Peru’s digital services and innovation units, the Andean Health Organization (ORAS-CONHU), and information technology leadership also participated.

Under the agreement, Peru joins a cohort of countries collaborating through the HealthAI Global Regulatory Network, a platform designed to support governments and regulators in developing transparent, equitable, and effective AI governance frameworks for health technologies. Members of the GRN engage in knowledge exchange, share regulatory best practices, and gain access to tools such as a global directory of registered AI health solutions and mechanisms for early monitoring of emerging risks.

Peru’s entry into the GRN is significant for several reasons:

-It positions the country as a regional leader in responsible AI governance, especially within Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world.

-It enables real-time information exchange about AI health technologies, supporting both regulatory development and national digital health strategy goals through 2030.

-Through cooperation with HealthAI, Peru will receive technical support, training and access to international regulatory expertise, while retaining full oversight of its own national AI policy decisions, in line with global principles like those of WHO, OECD and UNESCO.

HealthAI’s GRN initiative aims to strengthen regulatory capacity worldwide by bringing together “Pioneer Countries” — a group that already includes nations such as the United Kingdom, Singapore, India, Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam and Zambia — to co-develop frameworks that balance innovation, safety, equity and ethical oversight in AI-driven health solutions.
