Peru Blocks Over 400 Piracy Websites for Movies, Series, and Music

The Copyright Commission of the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) of Peru has ordered the blocking of over 400 websites that illegally exploit protected content, including movies, series, music, and televised broadcasts of sporting events, thereby violating copyright law.
To enforce this action, the Commission issued Resolution No. 0527-2024/CDA-INDECOPI, which mandates that internet service providers in Peru —such as Movistar, Claro, Entel, Bitel, Win, Americatel, GTD, and Nubyx— implement the block.
Notably, among the blocked websites, there are 25 domains associated with three mobile applications offering illegal stream-ripping services.
The blocked sites were involved in illegal streaming and downloading of protected content, and in some instances, they provided access to additional pages facilitating these activities. Furthermore, sites that offered stream-ripping services were identified, enabling the permanent download of content from legitimate platforms.
This action is part of the seventh phase of the international anti-piracy initiative known as Operation 404. This phase involved collaboration with intellectual property agencies and authorities from Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and the United Kingdom.
Commenting on the operation, Victoria Oakley, CEO of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) said: "Operation 404 is one of the largest and most effective global efforts against music piracy. It is very good to see it extending its reach across Latin America. It is the result of vital work coordinated by local authorities and government agencies across the region, which is making important progress in disrupting unlicensed music services and apps on a large scale."
