Peru decreases software piracy, but still an uphill to climb
In 2015 Peru dropped its software piracy rate to 63%, a 2% reduction from 2014 and a 4% reduction since 2010, but yet way up the regional average rate of 55%.

Rodger Correa, marketing director for Latin America of The Software Alliance (BSA), acknowledge the improvement but described the current software piracy level in the country as "pitiful".

Despite the figure, Peru isn´t the Latin American country with the biggest software piracy consumption: Venezuela (88%), Nicaragua (82%), El Salvador (81%), Guatemala and Bolivia (79%), Dominican Republic (76%) and Honduras (75%) are all ahead.

A better awareness of Intellectual Property and strong measures by the government and the software industry are the key factors to the slow but steady piracy reduction. "In addition, there is a decrease in the number of users who bought counterfeited computers. We are seeing signs of a maturing market in Peru", valued Correa.
