Peru joins Beijing and Singapore Treaties
In a major step for its trademarks holders, on September 27, 2018, Peru joined the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks, during the 2018 Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO, held September 24 - October 2 at WIPO Headquarters in Geneva.

Building on the Trademark Law Treaty of 1994 (TLT), the Singapore Treaty has a wider scope of application and addresses more recent developments in the field of communication technologies, creating a modern and dynamic international framework for the harmonization of administrative trademark registration procedures.

Also on September 27, 2018, Peru became the 21st country to join the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances, when it presented its instrument of ratification to the Director General of WIPO, Francis Gurry, during the 2018 WIPO Assemblies. Thirty contracting parties are needed for the Treaty to enter into force. The Beijing Treaty brings audiovisual performers into the fold of the international copyright framework in a comprehensive way.
