Peru Launches A Digital Service For Simplifying Patent and Plant Variety Annual Payments
By Espinosa Bellido Abogados

The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) in Peru has introduced “AnualiPat,” a comprehensive digital platform designed to streamline the payment process for annual fees associated with invention patents and plant variety certificates. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of intellectual property management in the country.
Developed by Indecopi’s Office of Information Technologies, AnualiPat offers a user-friendly interface that allows applicants and rights holders to manage their annual fee obligations remotely. The platform provides real-time access to payment histories, calculates the exact fee based on the application or grant status, and enables immediate download of payment receipts.
Under Peruvian law, the first annual fee is due one year from the filing date, irrespective of whether the patent has been granted. Subsequent fees are payable annually on the anniversary of the filing date. Payments can be made in advance for multiple years, and a six-month grace period is available for late payments, subject to a surcharge.
AnualiPat eliminates the need for physical submissions or the use of the Virtual Parts Desk, aligning with Indecopi’s commitment to modernizing its services and providing efficient solutions that facilitate the management of intellectual property in Peru.
