Peru launches competition to finance and accelerate invention patents to fight COVID-19
With the aim of motivating and promoting the protection of inventions that are currently being created, proposed or developed by different people and institutions to confront and stop the effects of the COVID-19 in Peru, the national IP Office (Indecopi) launched the special competition Patents against COVID-19.

“Different people, companies, academic and research centers and institutions have been responding with novel solutions and creations to face and reverse the current health and medical crisis that is shaking the world. In this scenario, this special contest seeks to be an agile response from Peru’s intellectual property system for filing a patent application and allow an invention to enter the market in a quicker and safer way,” the Indecopi stated in a press release.

The contest allows the participation of independent inventors, universities, research centers, companies and organizations in general, who have a new or improved product or process in an idea, development or finished stage, linked to: diagnosis of COVID-19, artificial respiration, cardiac stimulation, transfer and isolation of patients, drugs, vaccines, compositions and procedures for cleaning, sterilizing materials, and devices to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A maximum of 50 pojects with patenting potential will be selected to access a personalized technical assistance to file a patent application file, the financing of all administrative fees related to the application and the priority for an accelerated processing of the property title.
