Peru Takes New Step with 5G Technology Deployment Contracts
By Espinosa Bellido Abogados

Peru has advanced its telecommunications infrastructure by signing contracts for the deployment of fifth-generation (5G) mobile technology, marking what the government describes as a historic development in national digital connectivity.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) executed contracts for the assignment of radio spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band with four mobile network operators: Bitel, Claro, Entel and Integratel. These agreements enable these companies to begin deploying 5G network infrastructure across the country.
The introduction of 5G networks represents a significant improvement in mobile service speed, capacity and quality compared with previous generations of technology. 5G will enable more advanced digital applications across multiple sectors, including mining, education, and health, particularly in areas such as remote monitoring, digital learning and telemedicine.
Under the stipulated contracts, operators have made investment commitments totaling at least USD 502.9 million to support the rollout of 5G infrastructure. The agreements include specific coverage and service obligations aimed at reducing connectivity gaps, especially in rural and underserved areas.
This includes plans to:
-Provide 4G services in 1,731 rural localities, benefitting around 180,000 users
-Deploy 5G coverage along approximately 2,230 kilometers of highways
-Connect public institutions such as schools, universities and hospitals with 5G services by late 2026
These commitments are to be fulfilled over a four-year timeline, with a minimum of 25% of obligations completed within the first year of implementation.
