Peruvian trademark applications may have important growth in 2012

Peruvian trademark applications may have important growth in 2012
The basis for such projection is that until August 2012 there has been 19,820 industrial property applications that have been published for opposition, including patents. If that number is maintained at a similar pace, it may result in an exponentially larger number of trademark applications and an impressive growth of close or more than 20% in relation with 2011.

The most active industrial sectors for trademark registrations are chemical and pharmaceutical.

Some International companies that have been active in Trademark applications this year in Peru are the Chilean Cencosud (retail and supermarkets), which has filed close to 120 applications so far this year, Nissan (close to 60 applications), Honda (more than 50 applications, considering their industrial designs), Vans (53 applications) and Johnson & Johnson (50 applications).

Peruvian milk giant Gloria has filed close to 200 applications so far this year, following launches of new products, slogans and packages, as well as strategies to maintain some older registrations from being subject to cancellation actions.
