Pharmaceutical industry in relation to IP
The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, through the National Directorate of Industrial Property, organized a conference on the challenges and trends of the pharmaceutical industry in relation to IP.

The presentation was in charge of Dr. Gemma Stephen, technician of the chemical area of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), who is on a work mission in Uruguay.

During her presentation, Esteban explained the various difficulties that the pharmaceutical and chemical industry must overcome before launching a successful drug, stressing the importance that the patent system has as "a compensator for the big time and money investments" that are performed.

Esteban also talked about some of the worldwide discussions concerning pharmaceutical innovation and the implementation of regulatory and protection provisions, and gave an advance of the teaching course she will soon carry for DNPI examiners, deepening updates and knowledge for the examination of chemical patents applications.
