Plenty of agave secures Mexican trademarked tequila for the world
Ramón González Figueroa, president of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), said that Mexico has enough agave plants to guarantee the supply of tequila throughout the year. He explained that in 2016 43 million agave plants were consumed worldwide, and for 2017 there are 45 million agave plants ready for production.

Those plants are part of a 358 million total that cover the Mexican geographical area protected by an Appellation of Origin. "Since 1974 tequila is a product protected by an Appellation of Origin that has presence in 120 countries and is recognized in 49 of them. Currently the tequila industry is the livelihood of more than 70 thousand families and represents more than one million wages per year", stated González Figueroa.
