Political coalition sued for copyright infringement on presidential campaign
Chilean design company Latinotype sued a local Left-wing political coalition for copyright infringement, arguing that the political organization wrongly applied the license for one of its typefaces.

According to the complaint, Latinotype specifically designed the typeface "Andes" for the Frente Amplio to use it during the campaign of its candidate Beatriz Sánchez towards the presidential elections of November.

The company, that requests approximately USD 45.000 in compensations, moral and material damages, stated that the license was only to be applied on one computer, but the Frente Amplio used it "in several computers" and made it freely downloadable for any user on its website.

Romina von Borries, the coordinator of the Frente Amplio, acknowledged the "mistake" and explained that it was caused "by an oversight regarding the type of license" signed with Latinotype.
