The discussion was one of the key sessions at the XXIV Working Sessions and Board of Directors Meeting of the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) in Panama City.
Moderated by Ana Cristina Arroyave, partner at IDEAS, Costa Rica, the panel featured prominent speakers including Sergio Barragán, Legal Director for Mexico at food giant Pepsico; Maria Jimena Cobreros, Senior Director of the Legal Department at multinational consumer goods company Procter & Gamble; Jordi Güell, Board Member of the European Communities Trademark Association (ECTA); and Rafael Atab, President of the Permanent Committee for Alternative Dispute Resolution at the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).
The conference focused on various experiences and regulations concerning the resolution of advertising disputes, with a unanimous message from the speakers on the need to ensure that advertising is honest, clear, and non-deceptive, thus protecting both consumer interests and fair competition in the market. Self-regulation, the perspective of businesses, comparative advertising, and ambush marketing were the central topics of discussion.
