San Pedro organizes hackathon in its quest to become a smart city
By Bufete Mejía

On August 10 Honduran university students, computer programmers and others involved in software development worked together during the sprint-like event and presented ten projects for the technological transformation of San Pedro into a smart city. Three of them were rewarded and will be included in the Master Urban Development Plan of the city municipality.
Located in the northwest corner of the country, being the nation's primary industrial center and second largest city after the capital Tegucigalpa, San Pedro is looking for innovative ideas to help make it the “next smart city on the planet”, developing technological solutions that provide a more sustainable, safer and comfortable environment.
Among the topics worked during the hackathon were: integrated smart networks, mobility, Internet of Things, construction, health, education, energy efficiency, open information, manufacturing, logistics and tourism.
