Sanction for misuse of the Pisco protected designation of origin
By Francisco Espinosa Bellido

The Peruvian State owns and regulates the Pisco DO, which constitutes an important national asset controlled through Indecopi to guarantee the DO quality and ensure its prestige both in the domestic and overseas markets.
Therefore the Institution conducted a thorough investigation to the product "Pisco Puro Ica Vargas", marketed by Agrícola Viña Vieja Viña Santa Isabel. Physicochemical and organoleptic tests concluded the product didn´t meet the requirements of the Pisco DO.
Expert tasters were in charge of the technical evaluation of the samples, observing insufficient values of volatile acid, methyl alcohol, total volatile components and congeners, and organoleptic taste requirements.
