Sanctions for delays on the delivery dates of Internet purchased products

The National Institute for Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) of Peru, sanctioned 13 companies for service delays and breach of return policies with consumers who purchased their products through online commerce platforms. According to an Indecopi interim measure, the companies failed to deliver the products on the scheduled dates, rescheduled the shipping and delivery dates, exchange the product for one of similar characteristics or return the money the consumers had already paid.All this infringements are penalized by the Consumer Protection and Defense Code (Law 29571) which seeks to ensure greater protection of consumer rights, by acting preventively and proactively, in coordination with a range of government institutions, civil society, and the business community.
Indecopi, in its role as Peru’s National Consumer Protection Authority, is responsible for the protection and defense of consumers rights anywhere in Peru, in accordance with the Consumer Protection and Defense Code. These duties and activities are implemented within the framework of the National Consumer Protection and Defense Policy, based on four strategic pillars: a) education, orientation, and dissemination; b) protection of consumer health and safety; c) mechanisms for the prevention and solution of conflicts between providers and consumers; and d) strengthening of the National Integrated Consumer Protection System.
