Software piracy was reduced only 1% during 2011 in Peru
The loses produced by software piracy in 2011 are calculated in US$ 209 million, which is 25% higher than in 2010. From that total a 38% is money the government does not collect from taxes.

It was also informed that 78% of PC users in Peru admits to have some pirated software, while 49% of them do it as a regular practice and only a 7% buy original software for fear of the legal sanctions (fines of up to US$ 237,000.-, approximately), according to another report from Ipsos Apoyo.

The same report mentioned that 73% of people buying pirated software are males from 25 to 34 years.

A representative from the BSA mentioned that such numbers reflect that there is no real conscience of the criminal behavior involved in this activity, and that the educational campaigns made by the authorities are having little impact.
