On March 12 Paraguay Permanent Mission to the United Nations, represented by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Gustavo Leite, and the Ambassador of Paraguay in the United States, Germán Rojas, received in New York City a strategic plan for the development and growth of Paraguayan meat exports. The study was conducted by postgraduate students at Cornell University, a statutory Ivy League research university located in Ithaca, New York.“The great lines of the study state that, for improving meat exports, we need to work on producing meat without artificial additives, something that we have the resources to develop”, said Leite. “The recommendations are to focus on high-price markets, so it is not unreasonable to think that of the USD 1.3 billion that today we export yearly, we can reach USD 2 billion. That would mean more income, more taxes and more jobs for all those involved in the chain of meat production”, he added.
On October 2017, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) presented the results of a risk assessment regarding beef exportation from Paraguay to the United States, a step for allowing Paraguayan meat to have access to the US market.
