The new scanning equipment will strongly improve customs investigation at six border posts of the country and at the Central Air Cargo of the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport, in capital Managua.
According to the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), with the use of this technology inflows and outflows of goods will be facilitated, specially during physical inspection, reducing the average time per charge from 24 and 48 hours to five minutes. Among the main benefits of the new system are the modernization of the customs service, procedures speed-ups, trade facilitation and strengthening of public safety.
Alvimer, the company in charge of the project, stated that the total cost of it will be US 142.8 million. The company has trained about 100 workers and 80 DGA employees in the use of the scanners.
